We've known it all along, but research at recent obesity conference says the least healthy breakfast cereals are the ones most aggressively marketed to children. Wow. Big surprise. The rabbit selling pretty cereal hasn't fooled anyone for a long time. What might still surprise you are some of the other things the research highlighted.

One of the biggest reasons that walnuts in particular are so good for us is because they are the only nut that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for many of our normal bodily functions, including neural cell development and blood clotting. Since they are not produced by our bodies, we must obtain them from the foods we eat.

A recent study out of England that looked at the healthful qualities in a number of plant and herbal extracts found that white tea came out on top. In fact, it has been suggested that white tea might even help slow down the outward effects of aging (i.e., wrinkles) by retarding the degenerative processes that affect the skin.

Scientists have determined that regular exercise and healthy foods (modeled after the Mediterranean diet) could have a significant cumulative effect in reducing one’s risk for Alzheimer’s disease. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), followed over 1800 septuagenarians and scrutinized what they ate and their level of activity.
