Natural Ways To Boost Your Libido
The "little blue pill" has played a role in many bedrooms since its FDA approval and release as a remedy for erectile dysfunction in 1998. Is there a quick fix for women who find reaching a sexually aroused state occasionally difficult? For years, medical companies have worked to create a magic pill that would increase excitement for women in the same manner Viagra does for men.
Studies have shown that a woman's approach to sex is far different than that of her male counterpart — this includes becoming sexually aroused. Female's arousal is less directly biological and more influenced by cultural and social factors. Romance and intimate connection are often just as important to a female as the actual act of intercourse.
While some studies show that women's libidos are less receptive to sexually enhancing drugs, companies are still working to create one. Intrinsa, a testosterone patch, was approved in Europe but not America due to long-term safety concerns.
Currently, Pfizer is working on a developmental medication to treat female sexual arousal disorder (FSAD). On average, in male and female relationships, men report achieving orgasm 75 percent of the time while women report achieving orgasm only 26 percent of the time. Is there a market for female Viagra?
Whether or not the majority of women need or want a sexual stimulation medication is up for debate, but there are some things you can do without drugs to help boost your libido.
- Alcohol can stimulate the sex drive briefly, but remember, alcohol is a depressant. The arousal a few drinks creates can be quickly reversed by over indulgence.
- Aphrodisiacs aren't necessarily proven to pump up your sex drive, but they don't hurt. Phallic foods such as carrots, asparagus and beans, as well as oysters and fruits for their antioxidants are reported to stimulate.
- Work to ensure that the blood flow in your body — hence to your sexual organs — is on point. Stay fit, keep excess weight off to promote unrestricted blood vessels and stop smoking.
- Gingo biloba is a natural remedy reported to improve blood flow to the brain; it's shown to affect desire, enthusiasm and orgasm, as well.
- Self-confidence is paramount. Libidos can easily lessen when someone suffers from a lack of self-esteem or depression. Feel better about yourself to boost libido.
