Staying Motivated To Exercise
Exercising to achieve that body that you always wanted can appear to be a daunting task. It takes hard work, a strict diet, and lots of self-control. It’s easy to get bored and lose sight of your fitness goals. Here are some tips to help you stay motivated and focused.
Eat A Healthy, Well-Balanced Diet
With any exercise regimen, a healthy, well-balanced diet is essential. If you are not seeing any results from your exercise routine, perhaps you need to evaluate your diet, as this may be the culprit for your lack of gains. Omitting fatty foods from your eating plan should be common sense. Increasing your intake of protein will provide more energy, help your body recover from the stress of exercising, and will help repair muscles and bones. Some good low fat protein sources include baked skinless chicken breasts, egg whites, protein shakes, beans, fish, and turkey, to name a few.
Choose An Appropriate Exercise Program
Determining what types of exercises to perform to obtain your goals can be confusing. Consulting with a personal trainer can guide you and help you attain these goals. They can help you set up an exercise program that’s right for you, as well as answer any questions regarding your nutritional needs.
Get An Exercise Partner
Having a partner to exercise with can be critical to the success of you goals. Needless to say, it is important that this is a person who is reliable and can motivate you on the days that you’re feeling run down, and vice versa. If you are weight training, having someone with you can help you squeeze out those few extra reps that you might not be able to achieve if you were by yourself.
Keep A Fitness Journal
Keeping a journal will help you keep track of any progress that you make. This can be a good source of motivation if you are making significant gains, and can help you stay on track to obtain your long-term goals. Attaching progress photos will further help you keep tabs on your progress.
Keep Exercise Fun
Exercising isn’t fun for everyone, especially if you have to go it alone. If you’re exercising by yourself, music can often fill the void of loneliness. If you’re someone who gets easily bored or distracted, it is definitely worth it to purchase an MP3 player and configure it with music that gets your blood going. There are also a variety of video games that can keep you motivated and having fun during your exercise time.
Make Short And Long Term Fitness Goals
It is important to set long-term and short-term goals. Your short-term goals should be spaced out approximately two to three weeks, while your long-term goals should be achieved in months, or even up to a year. Whatever your goals are, whether it’s losing weight or building muscle, make sure your goals are reasonable, yet difficult enough to keep you working hard. A reward system can provide extra incentive for you to accomplish your short-term goals. For instance, every time you achieve your bi-weekly goals, you can give yourself a day off, indulge in a “bad” meal, or maybe just buy yourself something nice.
The road to a healthy body certainly isn’t easy. Make exercising a priority in your life, set your goals, and use any motivational tools to keep you focused.
